Wear comfortable, lightweight clothing and bring sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent. The sun on the river can be intense, so a UV-protection long-sleeve shirt is recommended. Bring a waterproof bag for your phone and camera — occasional splashing from boat wakes is common.
The dry season (November to April) offers the most comfortable weather with clear skies and less humidity. However, the wet season (May to October) brings lush green landscapes and higher water levels, which means you can access more narrow canals and see the delta at its most vibrant. The floating markets operate year-round.
The Mekong Delta is approximately 170km southwest of Ho Chi Minh City. Most tours include hotel pickup and a 2-3 hour drive via the modern expressway. You can also take public buses from HCMC to Can Tho or My Tho, or hire a private car. Some tours offer scenic boat transfers for part of the journey.
Yes, the Mekong Delta boat tour is family-friendly and suitable for children of all ages. The boats are stable traditional wooden vessels with shade covers. Children particularly enjoy visiting the coconut candy workshops, fruit orchards, and seeing the local wildlife. Life jackets are provided for all passengers.
The Mekong Delta is a food paradise. Must-try dishes include elephant ear fish (ca tai tuong), fresh spring rolls made with local herbs, tropical fruits straight from the orchards (dragon fruit, mangosteen, rambutan), coconut candy made before your eyes, and honey tea at local bee farms. Most tours include a traditional home-cooked lunch.
